Week 5: Midterm Proposals Review

After going through all the midterm proposals, I really gravitated toward three in particular. Those three are Water Usage and Pollution of Livestock by Ann Suzuki, Common Paint as a Silent Killer by Lucky Shulman, and Nootreats by Anastasia Lewis. All three of these proposals share a commonality, which is creating products geared toward benefiting the environment. Ann wants to create an app that demonstrates how much water was used to raise the livestock that you are eating and/or create a book that describes recipes that limit water usage.

Week 5: Kristin's Approach- Half Creative, Half Strategic

Our last class helped me gain a better understanding of the design students’ visions and what projects they have been working on throughout the quarter. I admire individuals who are able to think so outside the box and come up with creative ideas, since I feel like this is one area where I personally do lack.

Midterm Proposal

12” by Stephen Heo

Stephen wants to combat the menace of global warming by educating people of the devastating effects Earth will face thru the use of various visual mediums like slides, videos etc.

He also agrees that this approach is more philosophical and introspective and may not have any effect whatsoever in improving the situation.

Week 6: Midterm Project Review

From the start, the project that interested me the most was Jimmy Zhi’s “Plant DNA” project proposal. As a molecular biologist, the idea of using DNA as a medium is very cool. DNA is something that we learn about in great depth and that we work with very often, yet most of us have never touched it or seen it with the naked eye. I think the creation of an art piece that brings DNA to our scale would be really fascinating.
